Unwanted hair. Everyone has it somewhere and removing it has always been a problem. Traditionally available methods – shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams, tweezing and even electrolysis have long been inadequate and disappointing. They are time-consuming, frequently expensive, and usually only temporary, meaning you have to perform them again and again, sometimes daily. Zap Laser offers a new generation of solutions to help you achieve long term results quickly, effectively, and affordable.

WHAT IS A LASER, REALLY?

First of all, what is a laser? A laser is a device that produces light of a single color or wavelength. In dermatology, these lasers produce pulses of high-energy light that are taken up by the desired target. In the case of hair removal, the target is the melanin pigment contained within the hair shaft.

The tricky part of laser hair removal is targeting the hair shaft without damaging the melanin pigment in the surface of the skin. Thus the laser light has to be on long enough to heat the hair, but not too long to allow that heat to spread to the surrounding skin causing damage. In addition, the darker a patient’s skin, the more difficult it is to avoid injuring the surface of the skin while treating the hair. For this reason, there are three main types of hair removal lasers that are used today, and depending on the thickness of the hair and the color of the skin, one laser may provide benefits as compared to another. This is exactly why Zap Laser carries both of the more popular lasers, the Alexandrite as well as the ND YAG. By having both treatments available, Zap Laser is able to treat almost all skin types.

In addition to lasers, intense pulsed light sources are also used for hair removal. These light sources do not emit a single color or wavelength of light but emit light containing many colors. It may be more difficult to predict the outcome and avoid complications when using light sources that contain many wavelengths of light. However, the results with any device depend upon the experience of the practitioner. he experience of the practitioner.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS?

MilanaNormally, a series of six to eight treatments are administered at four to eight-week intervals depending upon the location of the hair. Following the initial series of treatments, subsequent treatments are administered, usually at longer and longer intervals. Some number of maintenance of treatments may be needed to keep all the hair away in a given area.

After a single treatment, the hair in a given area is usually reduced in amount and thickness for a very long period of time. However, it may not be completely gone. To keep an area completely devoid of hair, maintenance treatments are always required. These maintenance treatments may eventually be required at only yearly intervals or even longer. This depends on the area being treated as well as the individual. As with any other traits in an individual, the frequency of maintenance treatments varies considerably from person to person.

Laser hair removal can be enjoyed by both women and men on virtually any part of the body including face, hairline, ears, neck, chest, arms, hands, fingers, underarms, abdomen, bikini area, anal area, buttocks, legs, feet, and toes. Prices vary depending on area and will be discussed during your complimentary consultation. For specials and packages- see “Specials.

DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL REALLY WORK?

FAQ’s

What are the benefits?

Zap Laser brings you the latest advances in medical laser or laser-like devices to get you the safe, effective results you desire.

❊ Our treatments are based on pulses of light, scientifically calibrated to your unique skin and hair type

❊ Our treatments do not pull hair out like waxing or individually probe each follicle, much like electrolysis. This means minimal discomfort and no recovery time. It also means an end to ingrown hairs and the unsightly rashes caused by other outdated methods.

❊ ingrown hairs and the unsightly rashes caused by other outdated methods.

❊ Numerous follicles are treated at once. This means that you are in and out of our studio quickly you can even have your treatment performed on your lunch break.

❊ Because they are tailored to your individual needs, Zap Laser treatments are far more effective than previous methods you have tried.

How does it work?

Hair grows in three stages. Laser technology is designed to treat hair in its anagen, or active phase of growth:

❊ Highly concentrated light is transmitted 1-5 millimeters into the skin.

❊ The light targets the melanin, or pigment, in hair follicles while they are in their active phase.

❊ The hair absorbs the light, where it is converted into heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue.

❊ The follicle is disabled, and hair re-growth is impeded.

Is it Safe?

Hair removal treatments at Zap Laser are extremely safe, and Zap Laser professionals are extensively trained and experienced in laser treatments for long term hair removal. The technologies used have received FDA clearance. Zap Laser has local affiliate physicians on call to assure safety, efficiency, and results.

Does it hurt?

Some clients say it feels like the quick snap of a rubber band. Some clients use a topical anesthesia for discomfort

How many sessions does it take?

Because only 30% of your hair is in the active phase at any one time, a series, or course, of treatments will be required to achieve the long term clearance you desire. These treatments are spaced approximately 4-8 weeks apart, based on hair growth cycles. Our extensive experience tells us that you can expect an average of 6-8 treatments.

How long does a treatment take?

The length of individual treatment is determined by the density of hair growth and overall size of the area to be treated. Sessions for an upper lip or bikini area can take as little as 15 minutes, while larger back and leg areas may require up to 60 minutes or more.

What does “long-term hair removal” mean?

It varies according to the individual. In general, after a series of treatments, you can anticipate a longer time before re-growth, thinner and finer re-growth, and in many cases, permanent reduction of hair growth. With successive treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart, re-growth will be finer, lighter and less dense until you have reached your goal of smooth, sleek skin.
