Sunspot Removal
Sunspot Removal
Prolonged exposure to UV rays speeds up melanin production in your body. When it’s produced in large quantities or concentrated clump-like on your skin, sun exposure eventually leads to sunspots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, solar lentigines, and other benign pigmented lesions. 90% of light-skinned people over 50 have a sunspot or two. It’s a common dermatological depigmentation that can be treated with the right tools and equipment. Zap Laser Center specializes in dark spot laser removal near the Denver area.
Sunspots can be removed from any bodily area with proper laser treatment. Removing these benign skin lesions will significantly improve the appearance of your skin in one to three sessions with our top-of-the-line Alexandrite Laser. Call 303-539-1385 and book an appointment at our clinic today!
What Are Sunspots?
Sunspots, also known as age spots, solar lentigo, or brown spots, are benign pigmented lesions that result from direct sunlight exposure. These flattened spots can be brown, red, or tan and are more common in people over 40. When you continuously expose your skin to harmful UV rays, overactive melanin production causes clumps of pigment to form on the surface of your skin.
They’re frequent in the face, arms, hands, chest, and back and are common in people with light skin and those who don’t wear sunscreen or protective clothing when exposed to direct sunlight. Most of these skin discolorations are treatable.
Sunspot Treatment Options at Zap Laser Center
At Zap Laser Center, we use the Alexandrite Laser for removing pigmented lesions. This laser operates at a 755 nm wavelength, emitting a focused beam of light that is absorbed by melanin and broken down into smaller pieces, which your body eliminates. Its wavelength and precision make it the ideal choice for sunspot removal treatments. In 1-3 sessions, we can successfully remove pigmented lesions, age spots, liver spots, freckles, and other birthmarks.

Sunspot Removal FAQ
What parts of the body do sunspots affect?
Sunspots appear on the areas of the body that are most commonly exposed to UV rays, like your face, shoulders, back, and hands, but can appear anywhere on your body.
What should I expect during my appointment?
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment so we can prepare you for your session. We will take photos of your lesions to compare treatment progress accurately. We will provide you with proper eye protection before we start your treatment. You can expect a light stinging sensation, but the treatment is relatively painless.
How many laser treatment sessions does it take to age spots completely?
With our Alexandrite Laser, it can take from 1-3 sessions to properly eliminate age spots on your skin.
What treatments are available at your clinic?
At Zap Laser Center, we offer brown spot laser removal with our advanced Alexandrite Laser with 755 nm in wavelength. You can also ask about chemical peels and microchanneling for brown spot removal.
Am I a candidate for sunspot removal treatments?
If there are no contraindications for your treatment, anyone can be a candidate for laser brown spot removal. We will examine you to rule out skin cancers, inflammation, and infections before we begin your treatment.
Can I prevent sunspots from forming?
Sunspots are preventable with good skin care. Some good techniques to avoid the formation of pigmented areas are:
- Avoiding exposure to the sun between 10 am and 4 pm
- Applying sunscreen every day and reapplying it throughout your day
- Wearing clothing that covers your skin, like long-sleeved shirts
- Wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes
What should I do after my appointment?
After your appointment, you can expect your skin to be slightly reddened. Your skin can be sensitive for a few days, and the spots will appear darker as they heal. This does not mean the treatment has failed! You can use cleansers and moisturizers if necessary, and it’s crucial to avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, alcohol, and overexercising up to 2 days after treatment. Use SPF 30+ sunscreen on treated areas 4-6 weeks after your appointment.
